Character Background and Description Ella is the daughter of Markus and Emily DuGalle who originated from Quebec. Markus is a member of the Gaia World Formers colonist recruitment team and was sent to live in Manta while they sort out candidates for the next colony ship set for Mars. Due to his long stay in Manta, Emily and Ella were also relocated to live in Manta in a spacious apartment built specifically for Gaia World employees. Ella receives homeschooling from private educators taught through online programs as the school system is severely inadequate in Manta. Emily also works for Gaia World as a receptionist.
Ella found herself trapped in her apartment daily. as security systems allowed the door to be locked from both sides. Her parents declare it to be far too dangerous for a 14 year old girl to wander the city and while they may speak the truth, Ella has figured out a way to climb from her balcony to a neighboring rooftop and from there enter the building to access the elevator to wander the city. She rarely interacts with anyone although she does draw curious looks, both for her age and the quality of her clothing and that has lead to some uncomfortable questions. She has learned to sneak by Gaia World Security patrols so that they wouldn't alert her parents while she was out and has gotten better at knowing where not to travel. She does this at least once a day after rushing through her online coursework, she just has to make sure she is home and cleaned up before her parents come home from work which frustrates her as she is always limited in how far she can travel in one trip.
